IMU Placement and Measurement

  • Location: Embedded in a mouthpiece for accurate motion capture.
  • Measurements: Captures linear and angular accelerations in X, Y, and Z axes, along with gravity.

Noise and Drift Management

  • Impact Detection: Detects significant impacts with thresholds set for different levels of Z-axis acceleration.

Impact Thresholds and Alerts

  • Thresholds: Based on NIH concussion data, impacts over 2Z trigger alerts.
  • Summation of Hits: Sums multiple hits to assess cumulative impact and trigger alerts.

Processor and Communication

  • Processor: Equipped with a Cortex-M3 or Cortex-M4 microcontroller for data processing and alert management.
  • Communication: Uses WiFi for wireless communication, connecting to a hub with cellular service for data transmission.

Power and Battery Management

  • Power Source: Powered by a 3.3V button battery.
  • Battery Management System (BMS): Ensures efficient power usage and longevity.
